It is well known that Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia, but some small towns located just nearby are also very charming and worth visiting, even though they are not as big. They can be reached either by boat or car and are the perfect destination if you are in the mood for a day trip from Dubrovnik. With less crowds than in the city and an even bluer sea, these are the small towns near Dubrovnik you simply must visit.
Cavtat
Only 19 kilometers southeast of Dubrovnik, on the western shores of Konavle, small town of Cavtat welcomes you to visit its Old Town, take a walk along the seaside promenade, or just lay down on one of the beautiful pebble beaches. This beautiful, sunny, and romantic town in the south of Croatia has also been declared the best European honeymoon destination, so it is ideal for couples in love.
Trsteno
The village of Trsteno is located 20 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik and is a true natural oasis. The most famous sight of this place is Arboretum Trsteno, which is dedicated to the cultivation of trees and shrubs that serve scientific, breeding, and decorative purposes, and this was one of the main locations where the popular series ‘Game of Thrones’ was filmed. And for those who want to find refreshment in the sea, there are two beautiful beaches nearby - Štikovica and Brsečine.
Zaton
The fishing village of Zaton is located in a beautiful bay of the Adriatic Sea, only 8 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik. Lopud
The town of Lopud is located on the island of the same name and belongs to the Elaphiti Islands, and since it is not in the immediate vicinity of Dubrovnik, it is ideal for a boat trip.
